In My Project Bag

Here is a quick update on what I'm up to! =)

I'm still working on more crocheted plants for  the Gardening with Crochet  patterns.

Crochet flower ball

This time I wanted to make something with more colour so I'm working on a ball of flowers that will be later added to a vase. Similar to the basil bush I made for the Popular Saints celebrations but with flowers.

Now that the cold and rain seem to finally have arrived, I started to get more requests for crochet hats. I'm also taking this opportunity to finish the patterns for all the models I've already created.

I'm also working on updated versions of the Kitty Kat House pattern, the Gir with Hood Down and Robot Gir patterns.

For the Kitty Kat House I changed the way that the wires are incorporated into the body of the house, and for the Girs I updated the way to reinforce their necks. These updated versions of the patterns will be available soon! =)

And last but not least:

I always like to learn new techniques to make my buddies even more special so I started to experiment with needle sculpt to give them more detail.

Needle sculpting crochet doll

I can't wait to incorporate this techniques in my buddies! =D

What are you up to?

Crochet Pattern: Buddy Wallets

As you can see I've been really busy finishing one more pattern!!! =D

I present to you the Buddy Wallets! Check out the video at the bottom to get to know them all!!! =D

Crochet buddy wallets

These cuties are perfect for gifting your friends and family!

Crochet owl

Besides cute they are easy and quick to make, and practical too!

Totoro crochet wallet

They have a zipper so that nothing falls out, and two compartments for more organisation.

Off the Hook: Off the Hook and Amigurumi Cacti

Now that I finished all the orders I have more time to complete some projects I was working on before.

I started the Ipad cover more or less at the same time I started the cover for my mother's laptop, but I never seemed to find the time to finish it. Now i can proudly announce the cover is finished! =D

Crochet Ipad cover

I really like it! I used one of my favourite stitches, the Tunisian Crochet Knit Stitch!

I finished three cacti for my Gardening with Crochet series.

Crochet Opuntia Cactus

I really like the look of the ceramic vases with the crocheted cacti! ^^

Cacto de crochet.jpg

For this one I chose to make a big and showy flower, different from what I usually make.

I want to make, at least, one more type of cactus and maybe add some other kind of plants, but I'm not sure which ones yet.

I also want to take this time to take on projects made by other designers, to learn new techniques and skills. The first one I'm going to make is Phillip the frog by Lauren Whitney from Crochet, Olé.

And last but not least, I really want to continue to work on the On the Road cat house design!

I think that these should be enough to keep me occupied for some time hehe =)

Have fun everyone! =D

Off the Hook: Cat Houses, Amigurumi and Crochet Projects

The past weeks I've been MIA from the blog. I got a lot of requests and was working hard to meet the deadlines.

So for those of you who didn't catch the updates on social media, here is what I've been up to!

I started to sell the Kitty Kat Houses at Leeloo's veterinary, they are awesome and super sweet people and were happy to have the Kitty Kat Houses there! The first one I left there sold in a couple of days and so I had to make one more for Leeloo's veterinarian and another to keep as display there.

Three Kitty Kat Houses

Leeloo's veterinarian told me that her cat doesn't want to leave the house! She doesn't want to know about anything else and stays curled up in there all day! That's what I call a success!!! =D

Leeloo's veterinarian also ordered Rumi and Ami for her 2 year old daughter. I used baby yarn to make them, but the baby yarn I have access to is fine weight and I did Ami's and Rumi's patterns with medium weight yarn, I wanted them to have te same size as the original ones so I had to tweak the patterns a little bit and this took a little more extra time to accomplish.

It was worth it! She was really pleased with them!!! =)

Ami e Rumi.JPG

As I was finishing Ami and Rumi I received another order, this time for three hats and one keyring. Two of the hats I had already made, the fox and the cat, but the other two were new. It was a Stitch hat and keyring! I really enjoyed making them! I had a lot of fun figuring out how to make Stitch's eyes and ears. These irregular shapes are more challenging but fun to figure out! In the end I really loved the result and if this hadn't been a request I would have kept them for myself!!! =D

Now, after resting my hands for a couple of days, I'm already working on new projects that I will share here very soon!!!

In the meantime have fun everyone!!! =D

In My Project Bag: A New Cat House Design

Creating new designs for cat houses is becoming addicting! It's so fun!!! =D

I began to work on this new design in April but I had to pause it because some requests for other projects came through and I had to work on them.

I'm not entirely sure, now, how the idea for this design came to me but I remember this image of a cute vintage trailer with a kitty peaking through the window appearing in my mind, right then I knew I had to make it!

Vintage caravan pet house

The basic shape of the front of the trailer is done. Just before I had to pause it, I was working on how to reinforce it so that the house can stand.

I still need to figure out some details, I want the house to have wheels like a real trailer but that means that the bottom would be off of the ground so I have to figure out a way to make the bottom strong enough to hold the weight of the cats, and a way for the cat to go inside the house without having to jump.

This is exactly why I find creating new designs so appealing and fun, figuring out how to solve all these little problems and creating new fun products! It's like solving a puzzle and I always loved those! =D

Can't wait to get back to it!!!

In My Project Bag

Lets start with the projects I finished last week!

Kitty Cat Crochet Hat

The kitty cat hat was requested by a friend and was inspired on the face of the Kitty Kat House.

I think he is really cute and with some minor changes he would make a cute bunny hat as well! =D

Amigurumi Gir and Gir with hood down

These two guys are already on the way to their new home! Can't wait to hear from their new owners! ^^

Blue Monster

The blue monster  is coming along great! I made his little horns and now I'm working on his tail.

He is the cutest! ^^

Kitty Army

The keychain kitties keep multiplying and now I have an army of kitties to finish! =D

What treasures hang from you hook?

In My Project Bag

These past weeks I've been really busy with requests and new projects! Let's take a peek inside my project bag and see what it holds!

Bunny Buns

First up, the Linguine Bunnybuns... from outer space!, as you can see I couldn't resist making one more! Three's a party, right? =D

Cute Monster

I've made some progress on the little monster I'm working on. I'm not sure about the tummy I had made for him, so I'll leave that part for the end.

I think he's turning out to be a cutie! ^^

Kitty Cat Crochet Hat

This kitty cat hat was requested as a gift for a little baby girl! ^^

The nose is not the final nose, it's just a little piece of cardstock so I can visualise the face of the kitty better. The real nose is going to be sewn on! =)

Kitty Keychain

The same person that requested the kitty hat also requested some Kitty Got my Key keychains! We got a real kitty cat lover here! ; )

I just finished Gir and Gir with Hood Down! They will be on the way to their new owners latter this week! =D

I'm also working on a super secret project that is going to be a gift so I can't show it just yet! =)

My project bag is bursting through the seams! What do you have in yours? =D

In My Project Bag

Welcome to the new home of BuddyRumi!

Have you had the chance to look around? I'll wait! What do you think? Do you like it? =)

Ooooh I feel so fancy writing in my new website! =D

Today is time to share what's new in my project bag!

First I'm very happy to report that I finally caught the little creatures that were spying on me! =)

I had no reason to be scared they are the cutest little space creatures that I ever saw!

Caught them by surprise studying earth's flora:

Bunny Buns

Love their little tails!

These little cuties are the Linguine Bunnybuns...From outer space! created by Wayuki.

They are easy, fun to make and free! Check them out!

Cutest Amigurumi Monster

Can you tell I love this blue? ^^

I'm working on a little cutie of my own. I realised I didn't make a little monster yet, so I decided to change that! =)

At first I thought I would make is belly in white and orange, but now I'm thinking in substituting the orange with pink...Will have to make both and choose... =)

And that's it for today!

As always feel free to leave your comments or questions below!

New Home

Today I want to share with you a project I've been working on lately.

It's a digital project and it's the renewal of BuddyRumi's website! For some time now, I wanted to give it a cleaner and more up to date look. =)

Let's take a tour so that when the new website is ready you'll know what is what! =D

Navigation

The header, navigation bar and sidebar are pretty much the same. I didn't want to make you feel lost in the new website so I only made some minor changes (for the best, I hope) in the site's navigation. =)

In my Project Bag

Hello hello awesome crafty people! =D

Today I can finally show you the rest of the projects I have finished. They have been delivered! =)

First, is a second take on the aviator hat.

Baby Aviator Hat Felt.jpg

It was requested by a couple that is expecting a baby boy! ^^

For this aviator hat I made the goggles in felt, and instead of making the straps that go to the back like the first one, I made straps attached to the ears of the hat that can be tied under the chin. I think this one also came out really cute! What's your favorite version?

I also completed the helmet hat. It was a birthday gift! =D

Helmet Crochet Hat.jpg

I think it came out pretty cool! What do you think? =D

I'm also starting another Kitty Kat House, this one will be a little bit more colourful. And I'm also working on a Gir and a Gir with the Hood Down that was requested.

What do you have hanging from your hooks?

Drawing Buddies: Rumi

Hello crafty buddies! ^^

I'm not a very good drawer, but I think it will be fun to show you how my buddies are born. I wish this will be an incentive for some of you that wish to try their hand at designing amigurumi but didn't have the courage to do it yet, and maybe this way my drawings will get better too. =)

Drawing it's the way I first organize my ideas for new buddies. I usually draw them on grid paper to get a better sense of the shapes and proportions.

Rumi was one of the first buddies I designed. I love mice, they are so cute! I also love the idea of anthropomorphized and dressed animal toys! ^^

Rumi.jpg

When I make the drawing I also make little notes regarding colors, techniques and types of yarn I want to use.

Drawing is also a good way to breakdown the design, I can see more clearly all the shapes I need to make and how to make them.

Rumi 2.jpg

The final result is quite similar to the drawing. He has the pointy nose and rounded body, the shape of the ears  and fingers that I wanted, and , of course, the clothes and the "R" on his t-shirt. All details that were very important to me when making Rumi. =)

What are your strategies when designing your amigurumi? Do you draw? Do you make notes? Both?

Let me know! =D

In my Project Bag

Hello crafty friends! =D

Today I'm showing you what I managed to finish these last weeks!

I finished the bunny I was making for a friend, she already received so I can finally show it to you!

My friend was very happy with it, she's expecting her first baby boy and she asked me to make this bunny for him! ^^

I hope he likes it too!!! ^^

Bunny and Little Bunny.jpg

I also made some new little keychain buddies! ^^

They were inspired by the little white bunny that the bunny I made for my friend is holding.

Coelhinhos e ratinho.jpg

First I made it with yarn of the same weight, but decided to try them out with a light weight yarn too and they came out really cute! ^^

And with some minor changes I also made a little mouse!

These little buddies will be available as a free pattern very soon! =D

And last but not least, I made a Big Eyes crochet hat for my nephew! He celebrated his first birthday the past week, and I, as a very proud auntie, had to make him a gift! ^^

Baby Blue Big Eyes Crochet Hat.jpg

I've also finished the helmet crochet hat and a second take on the aviator hat but I know they have not been seen by the people they are going to, so I have to show you those ones next time! ;)

What beauties are you working on? Show me! =D

In my Project Bag

Hi crafty friends!!!

Another week has passed and is time once again to show you what I've been up to! =)

Little Bunny 2.jpg

The bunny is beginning to take shape. I'm not entirely happy with the shape of the body, I think I'll end up making it a little bit more rounded.

Helmet Crochet Hat.jpg

I'm working on a crochet helmet. I'm really happy with how it's coming along, but unfortunately I've ran out of yarn so this project has to wait a few more days to be completed.

Kitty Kat House Base.jpg

And, of course, I've started working on yet another Kitty Kat House! =)

What are you working on? Share the links to your projects on the comments below! =D

In my Project Bag

Hello crafty friends! =D

I've been working on some new projects! Let's check them out!

For some time now I've been wanting to make some fingerless mittens for me, but I never got around to it.

That changed when I found the Neon Love Mitts at Pom Pom Quarterly. I imiediatly fell in love with them and knew that these were the ones! Cherry on top of the cake: It's a free pattern!!! =D

Hello 2014!!! =D

Hello crafty friends!!!

I hope you have a super 2014 full of health, joy and crochet!!! Hehe =D

2013 was a great year, BuddyRumi grew and took on new challenges. For the first time I started to make finished buddies and not only patterns (that really made a diference this December)! For now the finished buddies are only available through local stores but I'm thinking of making some available through Etsy too.

With all these new challenges some of the pattern releases have been delayed but have not been forgotten. I hope you'll be patient with me and wait a little while longer as I finish the patterns for the Tree Trunk Shaped Cat House and the Periodic Table Blanket.

In 2013 I made some of my favorite buddies so far!
