Free Amigurumi Pattern: Jellyfish

 

This simple and quick to crochet buddy can be used as toy for children and cats or as a nursery decoration!

I made my jellyfish for Leeloo to play with! =D

Materials:

  • 3,5mm hook  (US E / UK 9)

  • Medium weight yarn in blue, light blue and white

  • Yarn needle

  • Optional: 12mm safety eyes

Abbreviations (US terminology):

  • Rnd: round or rounds

  • st: stitch

  • ch: chain

  • slst: slip stitch

  • sc: single crochet

  • hdc: half double crochet

  • dc: double crochet

  • inc 2: increase by working two stitches into the same stitch

  • inc 3: increase by working three stitches into the same stitch

  • inv dec 2: decrease using the invisible decrease technique

Head

Using the 3,5mm hook, and the blue and light blue yarns.

The head is worked in continuous rounds. Don't join rounds at the end. You may want to use a marker to indicate the beginning of rounds. All stitches are worked in both loops unless stated otherwise.

- Using the blue yarn.

Rnd 1: 6sc in Magic Ring     (6st)

Rnd 2: (inc 2) x 6     (12st)

Rnd 3: (1sc, inc 2) x 6     (18st)

Rnd 4: (2sc, inc 2) x 6     (24st)

Rnd 5: (3sc, inc 2) x 6     (30st)

Rnd 6: (4sc, inc 2) x 6     (36st)

Rnd 7-10: 36sc     (36st)

Rnd 11: 5sc, inc 2) x 6     (42st)

Rnd 12-15: 42sc     (42st)

Rnd 16: Front loops - (inc 3) x 42     (126st)

- Change color to the light blue yarn.

Rnd 17: 126sc     (126st)

- Slst, needle join and weave in ends.

- Optional: Place safety eyes.

- Change color to the blue yarn.

Rnd 18: Back loops - join with sc to the 1st st of Round 16, 41sc     (42st)

Rnd 19: (5sc, inv dec 2) x 6     (36st)

Rnd 20: (4sc, inv dec 2) x 6     (30st)

Rnd 21: (3sc, inv dec 2) x 6     (24st)

Rnd 22: (2sc, inv dec 2) x 6     (18st)

Rnd 23: (1sc, inv dec 2) x 6     (12st)

Rnd 24: (inv dec 2) x 6     (6st)

- Close and weave in ends.

Tentacles (make 3)

Using the 3,5mm hook and the light blue yarn.

The tentacles are worked in rows. All stitches are worked in booth loops.

Ch21

Row 1: 1slst in the 4th ch from the hook, skip 2 st, (dc, 3ch picot*) x 3 in the same sp. Work (dc, 3ch picot) x 3 in all the ch up to the penultimate ch. In the last ch: (dc, 3ch picot, hdc, 3ch picot, sc, 3ch picot).

- Finish off and leave a long tail.

*3 chain picot: ch3, slst to the 3rd st from the hook.

Top spiral with loop

Using the 3,5mm hook and the white yarn.

The top spiral in worked in rows. All stitches are worked in both loops.

Ch 75

1: 1 slst in the 25th ch, (inc 2) x 49, slst.

- Finish off and leave a long tail.

Assembly

- Attach the tentacles to the bottom of the jellyfish's head.

- Attach the top spiral with loop to the top of the head.

To make this little buddy even more cuter you can add eyes! But if you are making him for children or pets make soft eyes instead of using the safety eyes.
